Frequently Asked Questions

We've grouped together most of  the questions and answers that you  might have regarding our websites, but if your query isn't covered here, please contact us.

Why do I need a personal wedding website?

Having your own wedding website enables you to share lots of information with your guests or other people involved in your wedding, in a dynamic way that can easily be changed or updated.

You can give your guests a background about yourselves (and other family members if you wish); details about what will be happening on the day; what food they can expect (and a link for vegetarians); Guest information such as hotel, local accommodation, travel details, gift-list preferences (with a direct link to your gift list), etc; a guest book they can sign and leave messages for you; An electronic RSVP for your guest to reply on; a gallery of pictures that you can have for people to look at, including your wedding photos when they're ready.

Have a look at the example websites to give you some ideas.

How will my guests know where my wedding website is?

We suggest that you add the websites address (called a URL) to your wedding invites, either on the main invite, or on a separate sheet. If you're sending out save the date cards or fridge magnets, you can put the URL on there too. (Of course you can just e-mail everyone!)

Your website is supplemental to your invites or save the date cards, not everyone has access to the internet, so we always recommend that any information you include on your website is included with your invitations.

How much will my website cost me and why don't I have to pay for hosting?

The cost for GB customers is £25 (UK pounds). You can pay by personal cheque or postal order, they must be in £pounds sterling.

If you come from outside the UK, the costs are: US$40, CAD$60, EURO35, AUS$60, NZ$70, HK$360. You can pay by International money order in £GBP, but as these have high admin costs (and the sums involved are small) we are happy to accept cash through the registered post in your local currency.

You only pay the cost of the website after it has been uploaded to the internet and you are happy with all the details.

If you decide not to purchase the website, we'll delete it for you, with no cost incurred.

The cost includes free hosting at fateback.com, so there are no additional costs to host your website. Fateback.com has been operating since 2001 and operates a reliable and quick service, with only a small unobtrusive ad at the top of the pages. This site is hosted by fateback.com, as are all the example websites.

The advantage of using free hosting is that there is no time limit to the hosting, and with fateback.com no bandwidth limit. Click here to visit the fateback.com website. Click here to see the fateback.com terms and conditions.

Alternatively you could purchase your own hosting solution, and pass the details onto us so we can then upload your site. A good place to start is Easyhosting.net, click here to go to that site.

Another option is that of your ISP. Most Internet Service Providers (BT, AOL, Tesco, Freeserve, etc) bundle some web space in with your internet connection deal. Your wedding website will be no bigger than 1 meg (1000k), so will fit into that space with no problem at all. Check with your ISP to see if they give you any web space and how to access it. All you then have to do is send us the details and we'll upload the site to there instead.

What will my website address look like?

If you use the free hosting with fateback.com, your address will be like http://suzanneandrobertswedding.fateback.com.

If you buy your own hosting (see the answer above) you can have a .co or a .com, etc.

If you use the free hosting that comes with your internet package, the name varies, but usually is something like http://homepages.yourisp.com/yoursitename.

How do I order my Personal Wedding Website?

First, choose which website you like by looking at the examples. Then just go to our order page (click here) and see what information you will need. Collect all that information together, then start filling in the online order form. Don't worry if you haven't got all the details, they can be added later, but the more information you collect before you do the form the better.

Fill in the form, click submit, and it will be sent to us. We'll send you a confirmation e-mail, then start working on your site.

If you want to add any pictures, e-mail them to us at valentine-websites@tesco.net, clearly stating which page you'd like to see them on, and if you'd like them changed to black and white / sepia, etc. Please note: make sure any pictures you send are no larger than 300kb each, and that if bundled together, no individual e-mail exceeds 1.5 MB.

When your site is ready, we'll e-mail you and then you can check everything is ok. If there's any problems, we'll change them, and if you're happy, send us payment and thats it.

If any details have to be changed, just e-mail us, and we'll make the relevant adjustments.

When you get your wedding photos, e-mail them to us and we'll add them to your site.

How do I make changes to my site?

Just e-mail us at valentine-websites@tesco.net (clearly stating the bride and grooms name and date of wedding) and we'll make the changes. Or you could use the contact form on our contact us page.

What are the Free Guest Book and Free Electronic RSVP?

Your guest book and electronic RSVP are sourced from providers that fund the service through advertising. Explore the example websites by clicking here to see what they look like. You will be sent a user name and password for your free guest book so that you can edit or remove any  entries you don't want.

Can I password protect my site?

Unfortunately we don't offer this service at the moment. To protect yourself from spurious RSVPs, we suggest you ask for a password to be added to the electronic RSVP. This works by asking people who send an electronic RSVP to also enter a password that you would send out with your paper invites, or when you e-mail your guests your website.

Can I have a copy of the website to have on my computer, or to burn to a CD-ROM?

Yes. When you're completely happy with your website, we'll e-mail the complete website to you so your can copy it to your pc and burn it to CD if you want. Alternatively, we can copy it to CD for you and post it to you for £5.00. (Inc P&P). Please note, the Guest Book is not included in this, as it is stored on a remote server. You will still be able to access it by an internet link.
